Isn’t nutmilk the best invention ever, I especially love almond milk. It’s a milk that is protein-rich and a perfect alternative to dairy or soy milk. Mass produced almond milk contain preservatives and huge amounts of sugar though. So homemade almond milk is the way to go. I always make my almond milk with a high speed blender and a nutmilkbag. However, the other day I realized I have another amazing piece of equipment that can do all of this without a nutmilkbag or blender. Yes, you can make almond milk without a nutmilkbag or blender.

A juicer can do the same! The best models are the Omega or Hurom, since they strain while they create the milk. How to create any type of nutmilk with a juicer. For this article I used almonds, but feel free to use any kind of nut. And of course you will need a juicer.

I used the 2nd generation Hurom juicer. Place one cup (more or less 200 grams) of unsalted/unroasted nuts in a large cup or bowl. Pour in a good amount of cold water in the cup or bowl. The almonds should be well covered in water. Allow the nuts to soak overnight or at least 8 hours.

This is an important step. If you don’t soak the nuts you mind damage the juicer. The soaking will make the nuts soft enough to juice. The next day pour out the water and rinse the nuts thoroughly. Make sure you rinse until the water runs clear. Add fresh water in the bowl of soaked and clean nuts.

The more water you add the lighter the milk will be. Don’t add too much. Start with just a cup. You can always add more water when the juicer is running. Now it’s time to juice the nuts! When the juicer is running, spoon a ladle full of almonds and water into the top of the juicer.

Carefully add more. Don’t go too fast, or your juicer will get stuck. Continue adding more nuts and water into the juicer. When finished, the milk should be frothy. ”I don’t have a slow juicer! No panic. If you don’t have a juicer that extracts pulp, then strain the resulting almond milk through a nutmilkbag.

You can read here how to use a nutmilkbag. You can also make flavored almond milk. This is optional though. You can blend the almond milk with bananas, dates and/or fruit to create an almond milk shake or smoothie. And my favorite are the soaked dates. For a slight sweetness I will soak 2 to 4 dates when soaking the almonds.

Place them in the juicer with the almonds and water when juicing. Almond milk can be kept in the fridge for some days. Just make sure to store them well. The same rules apply as for juices and smoothie. So fill up the jar to the brim as much as you can and cover them. In order to be sure that you did make penicillin and not a toxic substance you have to test it! If the result is positive, I suggest, before taking it, to try it on an animal in small quantities just to be perfectly sure it’s not harmful. In case you have a sick animal try it on it and see the results. It might get better very shortly! The penicillin made from this experiment should not be used unless it is a survival situation.
